Giuseppe Attardi

Giuseppe Attardi is full professor at the Dipartimento di Informatica of the Università di Pisa, where he teaches Advanced Programming and Natural Language Processing.
He is currently coordinator of the Distributed Computing and Storage division at GARR, where he overlooks development and provisioning of the Federated GARR Cloud Platform.
Attardi has been the director of the Computing Center of the Dipartimento di Informatica and has been on the board of the center SeRRA (Servizi di Rete di Ateneo), contributing to the development of the wide area fiber optic network throughout the city of Pisa.
As a member of the board of GARR, he contributed to the design and deployment of the high bandwidth Italian Research network.
He codeveloped Arianna, the first search engine for the Italian Web.
Attardi has been visiting professor at MIT, at ICSI in Berkeley, at the Sony Computer Science Laboratory in Paris and at Yahoo! Research in Barcelona.
He has been principal investigator in several research projects both at the European, national and regional level.
His research has been founded also by grants from private US companies such as Sun MicroSystems, HP, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo! and Linkedin as well as from Italian companies including Olivetti, Synthema and Tiscali.
He founded several university spin-offs: DELPHI SpA, a specialist in Unix workstations, Ideare SpA, a developer of technologies for Web search engines, Link.it, a specialist in Service Oriented Architecture and WebSays, a specialist in natural language analysis for social media monitoring.
