Sergi Figuerola

Dr. Sergi Figuerola is the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at i2CAT since May 2013 and co-chair of the European cluster on Converged and Optical Networks (CaON). He joined i2CAT in 2004 as Network Technologies Area Coordinator, becoming Director of the Distributed Applications and Networks Area on 2010. From 2001 to 2004 he was researcher within the optical communications group of the UPC. He is graduated in Telecommunication Engineering and PhD by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), and holds a Master in Project Management from La Salle (URL).
At i2CAT he is in charge of the strategy of the different Technology Research Areas and the Innovation Business Units. He has participated in more than 20 successful projects, being most of them EC FP7 projects, and is currently the Project Coordinator of 5GCity, a 5G PPP project.
He has acted as technical coordinator of the GEYSERS FP7 project, Coordinator of the MANTYCHORE FP7 project, Research Activity Leader of the FEDERICA FP7 project and Work Package Leader of the PHOSPHORUS FP6 project. His main research interests are related to optical networking, new architectures, infrastructure as a Service, Network as a Service, cloud computing, Future Internet and Open Innovation.
